| Greetings in the Name of the Cornerstone! Long ago, the Psalmist wrote these words in Psalm 118; “I thank you that you have answered me and become my salvation. The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (21-24) I’m thrilled that the new worship experience in the Forum is reflecting the sentiment of the Psalmist. Seated around the round tables, you have shown your resilience to embrace change and the joy of worshipping in a new space while our Sanctuary is being renovated above us. It has been enjoyable for me, as new opportunities to express our love and praise to God has filled our Sunday worship services. The Holy Spirit is moving mightily as we affirm the salvific work of Christ, the cornerstone of our faith. I’m excited by the way things are moving in the Find-Us-Faithful Sanctuary renovation project that is now underway. Carrol Cyr and his crew have done a remarkable job of painting the Sanctuary, Little Sanctuary, Youth Room, entry ways and hall ways. The new colors are cream and taupe (‘taupe’, I found out, is a beige color), and will blend in beautifully with our new carpet, which has colors to accent the stained glass windows. The carpet, which had to be ordered is already at the carpet company’s warehouse and is scheduled to be installed in mid-March. Wayne Wetzel and his crew are doing an amazing job of rebuilding the Chancel area, which is being extended out and slimmed down for greater accessibility and beauty. Rather than carpet, the Chancel area flooring will be hardwood which will improve acoustics for the musicians. New wiring for our sound system and additional electrical outlets will enhance our acoustics and functionality. Additionally, a new pulpit and lectern will be included in the new Chancel look. The final part of the Sanctuary renovation will be the installation of custom-made solid oak pews with a gold and plum colored seating and matching reupholstered balcony seats. The balcony will also include lighting for the dome and the recently installed cast iron balcony railing for safety and beauty. The pews are scheduled to be installed the last week of March, which will allow us to hold our first worship service in the renovated Sanctuary on Easter Sunday…if everything remains on schedule. I am reminded of the Psalmist’s words from the 118th Psalm, and so I would invite you to pray this as a prayer with me as we give thanks to the grace and goodness of a God who loves us more than we can imagine: “Gracious God, I thank you that you have answered me and become my salvation. Jesus, the stone which the builders rejected has become our cornerstone. This is the Your doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. Thank you! Amen. Friends, this is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
